Microcosm
Microcosm explores and highlights the fundamental necessity of maintaining a connection with nature during lockdowns. This series is enhanced by my intrigue in microhabitats, found within my local natural environment, particularly rock pools. Low-tide in a rock pool is a metaphoric microcosm of how we live during lockdown, being forced to coexist in a constrained environment. Aqueous materials reflect the movement of water, masked areas create tracks and trails through the inky layers and, in a selection of works, solid mollusc-like forms congregate en masse or in small communities. Washed up on the Bayside shore are egg cases, seaweeds and sponges, a few of the many organic textures and forms informing these works.
